Introduction
Shadow Guard is a blog that will showcase my steps toward creating a DIY Marine Chapter named, surprisingly, "The Shadow Guard". While creating my own Marine Chapter is my primary motivation, this is also part of a goal between a friend of mine and myself to get a new 1850pt 40k army up and running for Da Boyz 2012.
All of my 40k experience has been with Tau, and while I do enjoy my Tau army, I purchased the army from another player, and despite there being close to 3000pts of models there, I didn't get to go through that "new player" phase of slowly building an army.
The secondary issue there is that because I got so many models at one time, it was hard to keep myself motivated about painting, hence the shared goal with my friend. The plan is a $150-$200 buy-in by December/January, and then a $50 increase per month. We decided to base our grow on finances rather than points as neither of us is exactly rolling in expendable income, so budgets were important.
What are the Shadow Guard?
The Shadow Guard are a Codex: Space Marine army, that are not an established chapter, but rather one of my own design. I have not yet decided which chapter they were founded by, however it is likely to be Ultramarines.
The idea behind Shadow Guard started with the knowledge that the new Codex: Necrons will be dropping this weekend, and it is possible we will be seeing a lot more Necron armies. Originally I was going to make "Anti-Necron Marines" from a stat line point of view, but I decided rather to focus on a balanced force that is "Anti-Necron" from a fluff perspective rather than a composition one.
I decided on the name Shadow Guard (after a few other not so Marine-y) type names to represent their purpose, defending against the darkness the Necrons bring.
What will we see here?
Anything related to the Shadow Guard; this is an army creation log, so it will contain fluff, lists, and painting. However it will also serve as "Shadow Guard Central" for me, so expect to see battle reports and the like as well.
